Taila Santos took home less than Brendan Allen despite narrowly losing to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 275

That’s right, despite narrowly losing to dominant UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, Taila Santos took home less money than Brendan Allen at UFC 275.

The Brazilian pushed Shevchenko all the way to a decision, which many believed Santos had a strong chance of winning. Despite this, Santos took home just $132,000 according to MMA Salaries – less than undercard fighter Brendan Allen who took home $150,000 after beating Jacob Malkoun.

Santos received a base salary of $100,000 and was entitled to $32,000 worth of sponsorship money from the UFC. Her opponent, Shevchenko, took home a total of $472,000 after defending her flyweight crown against the tricky Brazilian.

In total, the MMA organization paid out $3,382,000 to the fighters during the UFC 275 event, with the majority going to the light-heavyweight title fight in the main event. Both Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka pocketed over half a million dollars after their title clash.

It’s surprising that the payment difference was so large between Shevchenko and Santos, especially given that in the main event, both fighters took home nearly the same amount of money.

Taila Santos hasn’t publically complained or mentioned the pay-gap, but she will likely be wanting a lot more money should the rematch between the two flyweights happen in the near future.
